Originally from Singapore with an MFA in Character Animation, Shawna is a multidisciplinary Artist based in Oakland, CA, whose work draws on a blend of her Peranakan cultural roots and experiences as an immigrant to the United States. Shawna is recognized for her vibrant yet muted color palette and graphic shapes with the gift of telling stories through images. After a decade in the U.S. as an Animator and University Art Instructor living away from family in a foreign land, Shawna often finds comfort incorporating a food theme into her illustrations and handbuilt ceramics to share and connect the community to her culture. You will find these themes in much of her work including murals featured in downtown San Francisco, Silicon Valley offices and private residences around the Bay Area.
